Our Services
Homesol Building Solutions delivers energy assessments, modelling, ratings, labels, and verified building energy solutions for residential new construction or retrofit projects in Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island.

Our services improve a buildings’ energy efficiency and impact on the environment. We offer these services for existing homes, new homes, and multi-unit residential buildings. We also offer other services such as diagnostic testing with theatrical smoke, building science consulting, air barrier system design, and much more.
Existing Home Evaluations
An EnerGuide Home Evaluation is typically the first step in the process for Federal, Provincial and Municipal programs. Homesol’s Registered Energy Advisors (REA) efficiently collects data on a building’s thermal enclosure and mechanical systems. They perform an airtightness test and identify all significant air leaks. This information is entered into the energy model (Hot2000) from which the REA recommends upgrades based on a House-as-a-System approach – first with a conservation approach with increased thermal enclosure performance, then with appropriate mechanical systems and technologies. These are outlined in the Renovation Upgrade Report, which is provided to the homeowner along with the EnerGuide Label and Homeowner Information Sheet.

Our experience with energy standards and programs including local building codes, ENERGY STAR for New Homes, R-2000, CHBA Net Zero Home Labelling Program, Passive House International and PHIUS+ Climate Specific Standard guides our suggestions and strategies that help homeowners on their journey to a more comfortable, durable and affordable building.
Once the upgrades have been completed, Homesol’s REAs return to verify each implemented upgrade, perform another airtightness test, and update the energy model for file submission.
New Home Construction Services
When planning to build a new home or building it is important to get the details right at the design stage. Homesol’s Registered Energy Advisors (REA) help homeowners, builders, renovators, architects, designers and developers meet energy standards and programs including local building codes, ENERGY STAR for New Homes, R-2000, CHBA Net Zero Home Labelling Program, Passive House International and PHIUS+ Climate Specific Standard.

By taking a House-as-a-System approach we focus first on a great thermal enclosure that provides comfortable, durable buildings with reduced energy consumption and energy bills. We then recommend appropriate technologies to further enhance comfort.
Multi-Unit Residential Buildings
Homesol’s Multi-Unit Residential Building (MURB) specialists are qualified to evaluate, model, verify and test these types of buildings as a whole building or on an individual unit level.

We have the knowledge to help develop a great air barrier system for the whole building and for each individual unit. We are equipped with the tools and the ability to perform air tightness testing on these large buildings as well as compartmentalization testing of individual units.
