Position: Energy Advisor / Residential Energy Conservation Consultant

Job Locations – Ottawa, Eastern Ontario, Atlantic Provinces:

Homesol Building Solutions has an opening for qualified Energy Advisors (EAs) to help deliver both new and existing home energy efficiency consulting services, including EnerGuide Rating System (v.15), ENERGY STAR, R-2000, LEED, Passive House and Net Zero / Carbon Neutral Homes.

Candidates not currently possessing an active v.15 EnerGuide Rating System Energy Advisor designation must pass the qualifying NRCan exams prior to being hired (exam training and scheduling details below).

Competencies to be successful in this job include knowledge of:

•Site Safety
•Client Communications, Report Writing and Computer Skills (HOT2000, Outlook, Word, Excel, SketchUp)
•Geometry and Numeracy
•Building Envelope Assemblies (Air, Weather and Vapour Barriers, Insulation, Windows, Framing, etc.)
•Basics of Canadian House Construction and Deep Energy Retrofit Methods, incl. current building codes
•Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems
•Building Science and the “House as a System” Approach
•Blower Door Testing
•Current EnerGuide Rating System and ENERGY STAR requirements
•HOT2000 Modeling in v.11 including developing cost effective deep-energy Upgrades

Preferred candidates would have a minimum of 2 years of related post-secondary education (e.g.: Advanced Housing, Energy Management Technology, Sustainable Energy Engineering, Architectural Technologist, etc.) or equivalent experience. Prior HOT2K energy modeling, blower door testing experience and familiarity with energy conservation and green building principles an asset.

Applicants should be physically fit, able to climb ladders and carry equipment. Must be personable and outgoing, have good English oral and written communication skills and interact professionally with builders, designers, trades and homeowners. Own cell phone, reliable vehicle, good driving record, proof of car insurance and criminal record check are required, willing to work from home and travel regularly to jobsites within 100 kms. Trustworthy, organized and able to work independently without supervision. Candidates should possess high standards, have good time management, follow procedures well and deliver accurate results.

If you prefer to work as a self-employed Energy Advisor, you are ineligible for this position, but we may consider a business-to-business subcontractor / Service Organization agreement under certain conditions, including minimum of five years of experience, proof of qualifications and professional liability insurance.

Initial job responsibilities include:

  • Conduct residential energy evaluations
  • Prepare and provide reports and labels to clients
  • Organize, update and submit electronic file documentation
