Where We Work

Homesol’s network of Energy Advisors covers Ontario and the Atlantic provinces, with a particular focus on Ottawa and Eastern Ontario from the Quebec border to Belleville and north to Petawawa, and throughout the Central Mainland region around Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We are pleased to provide our energy design and green building consulting, testing, verification and certification services to clients anywhere throughout North America, both electronically (e-mail, phone & video-conferencing) and in person.

For site visits more than 160 kms. from Perth, Ottawa or Halifax we charge $0.50 / km. mileage each way. If over 320 kms., we also charge for our travel time at 50% of our standard hourly rate, plus expenses.

How We Work

Homesol is a Certified B Corp, meaning our company meets rigorous standards of social and environmental performance including “right livelihood” and fair employment. B Corp businesses strive for the common good over shareholder profits. Read the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence for more on how we work.

When you hire Homesol, we save you energy and money, while helping you make buildings better, with higher market value. In return you pay us a reasonable fee as your trusted energy advisors. We have standard pricing for most energy consulting, modeling and verification services, simply tell us what you need us to do for you and we’ll tell you what it costs.

We ask all new clients (other than home energy retrofit program customers) to sign an initial consulting contract, agree on the scope of work, and pay a $300 minimum fee retainer, then we can get started on your project(s) and answer all your questions. Simple as that.

Who We Work With

We currently limit our practice to Part 9 residential buildings less than 5 stories tall (no commercial projects at this time). Our primary focus is energy-saving “better than Code” homes; serving professional builders, renovators and designers; delivering home energy rebate programs for homeowners; and providing training and quality assurance for other organizations.

If you are a first time owner-builder/renovator acting as your own contractor, we recommend you first attend a semester at Endeavour Centre in Peterborough, ON  , Yestermorrow in Waitsfield, VT  or Shelter Institute in Brunswick, ME to learn more about regenerative, energy-saving homes.
