Position: Consulting Energy Advisors

Job Locations (Ontario): Ottawa, Perth, Belleville/Prince Edward County, Peterborough, Orillia, Deep River, North Bay, Sudbury, Manitoulin, Sault Ste. Marie.

Homesol Building Solutions has openings for Consulting Energy Advisors (CEAs) to help deliver both new and existing home energy efficiency consulting services, including EnerGuide Rating System (v.15), ENERGY STAR, R-2000, LEED, Passive House and Net Zero Homes.

Applicants ideally already have a valid NRCan Certified Energy Advisor number qualified to deliver EnerGuide Rating System v.15, and have submitted at least 10 house files to NRCan in the past 2 years (or equivalent experience), OR must be able pass the new NRCan Foundations and Energy Advisor exams within 60 days of being hired (training materials provided, your exam fees will be refunded if you pass). Competencies to be successful in this job include:

•Site Safety
•Client Communications, Report Writing and Computer Skills (HOT2000, Outlook, Word, Excel, SketchUp)
•Geometry and Numeracy
•Building Envelope Assemblies (Air Barriers, Insulation, Windows, etc.)
•Basics of House Construction and Renovation Methods, incl. current building codes
•Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems
•Building Science and the “House as a System” Approach
•Blower Door Testing
•The EnerGuide Rating System v.15
•HOT2000 Modeling in v.11 including Upgrade Recommendations
•Homesol’s Code of Ethics, Employee Handbook & Quality Assurance Procedures

Previous HOT2K energy modeling, blower door testing experience and familiarity with energy conservation and green building principles preferred. Applicants should be physically fit, able to climb ladders and carry equipment. Must have good English oral and written communication skills and interact well with builders, designers, trades and homeowners. Own cell phone, reliable vehicle, good driving record, proof of car insurance and criminal record check are required, willing to travel regularly to jobsites within 120 kms. of home. Trustworthy and able to work independently, yet not an independent subcontractor. Candidates should possess high standards, good time management and deliver accurate results.

Initial job responsibilities include:

  • Conduct residential energy evaluations
  • Prepare and provide reports and labels to clients
  • Organize, update and submit electronic file documentation

This is an entry-level position involving lots of site visits and blower door tests. Additional training, continual professional development and long-term employment prospects will be provided to successful candidates.

Ninety-day training and probationary training period. Base salary after 3 months depends on demonstrated experience, competencies and qualifications. Substantial room for career advancement.
